  VOLUBILS      MOROCCO                         A very long history The history of Volubilis covers more than ten centuries,the first core of the city,dated from the 2 nd century BC,equipped with a regular plan an perhaps an enclosure,extends over twelve hectares,it belongs then to the kingdom of Mauritania,but the vestiges of this period were most often destroyed or covered, After the assassaination of king Ptolemy  And the annexation of the kingdom by the Roman Empire in 40 AD. The city elevated to the rank of municipality has an important extention .During the reign of Marcus Aurelius  168-169  AD New urban enclosure encompasses forty hectares. In the 2 nd and  3 rd century,the monumental quarter is reorganized and a triumphal arch is erected in honor of Emperor Caracalla his mother Julia Which exempts the inhabitants from taxe,and enjoy full citizenship like Roma.
